The Right Fertilizers and Soil for All Your Tropical Plants

If planting tropical plants is on the list this time, there is a specific kind of soil and fertilizer that you will needs. Let’s find out what this type is.
Check the Quality Of The Fertilizers
A good quality fertilizer will surely not be a cheap - for a fertilizer of superior quality you need to spend some extra money. The golden rule of buying a good quality fertilizers states to buy contents instead of brands as they will cost more and still be a compromise with product value. Expensive fertilizer contents have better plant food value and provide the soil with important nutrients for a longer period of time.

Understanding the Essential Contents Of Fertilizer

While checking out different brands of fertilizers, you might have noticed that the bags are marked with a set of three numbers like 2-5-8. This set of number is a label to the essential content of fertilizer, where the first number marks the nitrogen content, second number is for phosphorus content and potassium is marked with the third number. Thus, the selection of the fertilizer should always be dependent upon the requirements by the soil and should be kept in rotation.

Feeding the Plants With Nutritious Fertilizers

Because fertilizers enhance the nutritive value of the soil and turn up as an essential component of plant’s diet, it is important that you decide on the balanced fertilizer feed as per the requirements of a plant. For instant a plant that requires enhanced content of acid in diet should be nourished with acid forming fertilizers for proper nourished growth and preserved food values. Moreover the fertilizer should be uniformly sprinkled in a drip line manner around the plant surroundings.
Balancing  Soil With Appropriate Fertilizer Contents
Different agricultural and horticultural universities globally recommend fertilizing the soil at least four times a year with alteration in basic nutrients. However, the selection of fertilizers is certainly dependent on the climatic conditions and other natural features like soil type, availability of water and sunlight. Besides fertilizing the soil with chemical fertilizers, it is important to balance it with organic manures and give the organic content enough time to formulate throughout the soil enhancing its natural value. Moreover, the soil should be fertilized with high nitrogen content at the time of pellets and with low contents of nitrogen for fruits and flowers.
Buying Best Quality Soil For Tropical Plants
Having the best quality of soil for tropical plants is certainly more essential than getting the right combination of fertilizers. Good quality soil content should have a balanced permutation of natural ingredients like moss, charcoal chips, wooden or pine bark chips, composted manure, dehydrated manure with seed hulls and mushroom compost. Besides all such natural elements, the soil should also have a balanced ratio of fungicides, insecticides with a blended composition of top and potting soil.

What Organic Fertilizers Mean To Plants and Soil

Organic farmers are those that have taken upon themselves to grow plants in a living fertile soil medium, which is rich in humus and nutrients. The most critical factor that first needs to be sorted out is the quality of the soil. It could be lacking in nutrients, have an extreme pH level or just not apt for growing. The plants are well versed in absorbing nutrients be it organic or inorganic. But they can absorb nutrients only in a certain chemical composition. As an example they can only absorb nitrogen when it is a nitrate or ammonium only when in ions and potassium only as K+ ions.
Let’s take a look at organic fertilizers in depth.
1. Organic versus Inorganic
Inorganic fertilizers provide nutrients in a readily soluble form. However, organic fertilizers take time to break down and then release the nutrients in to the soil. They are broken down by the microorganisms’ present naturally in soil to release the ions for the plants. Organic fertilizers are generally low in levels of N-P-K so large quantities are required to boost a small field in comparison to inorganic fertilizers.

However, since the organic fertilizers for gardenias are broken down slowly they do not need to be re-applied frequently and provide the required supply of nutrients for a longer time. Since they are not easily soluble they do not lose the nutrients to the environment and cause minimum injury to the plants. On the whole organic fertilizers increase the water retention capacity of soil and promote microbe activity, improving the soil quality in the process.
2. Why Should We Fertilize?
Fertilizers are additional boost the plants need in order to perform all functions correctly. The soil loses its vital nutrients due to usage by plants and other factors like wind and rain. Fertilizing the soil keeps it fertile and healthy and in turn keeps the plants that grow in it in good health. The plants most importantly need nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. Before fertilizing soil it is advisable to do a soil test to know its composition.
3. How to fertilize Plants?
The most basic and pure form of organic fertilizer is a plant, mineral or animal added to the soil without any artificial processing beforehand. Common examples are animal manures, plant manures and ashes from woods. The organic matter when added to the soil improves its composition, ability to retain moisture, drainage of excess water and maintains the right amount of micro-organisms in it. Since the nutrients are released slowly and by a natural process there is less salt injury to the roots of the plants. Unlike synthetic fertilizers they provide a food source for soil microorganisms and earthworms.
4. Application of Organics
Adding organic fertilizers to the soil is a very simple process. There are products like dehydrated cow manure in pellet forms available easily in the market, you can also choose from a wide range of products like sea weed, Alfa Alfa meal, cotton seed meal and so on. It is best advised to apply organics a few months before planting as they need time to break down. The best way is to spread it on the top soil and let id seep down naturally.

Best Way To Grow Hydroponic Plants

The reason for your interest in hydroponics will determine the plants that you will select for growing. It is advisable to first do some research before venturing into this field. Data should be collected on plants that are easy to grow. So that the little or no experience the grower has can be fairly converted into a sense of satisfaction. Growers should start with a simple system and keep moving to more complex levels. Let’s have a look at the best ways to grow hydroponic plants.
1. Space Available
The amount of space a grower has is the most critical factor when selecting plants to grow as hydroponics. If area is restricted it is best avoided to plant large plants like melons and pumpkins that require space to expand. Although they can be grown in a space restricted environment but there will be a compromise on the quality of the final product.
To start with it is best to grow herbs and leafy vegetables. They grow quickly and can be harvested repeatedly. They do not require space to expand and give good results. For growers with a dedicated greenhouse, a garage or a patio can start with an advanced system. They can easily select plants with deep root systems and those that need trellises.
2. Start Up Stage
At the first stage the grower needs to stock up on storage tote tubs from the local depot. Then he needs to select the plants he needs to grow and their seeds from the local gardening store. He needs to be fully aware of the what-nots to add to the base solution and which nutrients need to be added essentially.
3. Factors affecting Plant Growth
There is a long list of factors that affect the growth of plants in a hydroponic system. The temperature cannot be at extremes and can hinder the growth of the plants. Most plants respond well to day temperatures of 75-80 degrees and night temperatures of 65. But plants like lettuce need another degrees low. Hydroponic plants grow well in the outdoors and also in greenhouses, but in both scenarios they need a lot of natural light. Inside a greenhouse they can be illuminated with fluorescent grow lights for 16 hours a day.

How to Control Weed - A Few Tips from San Diego Experts

While it is true that you need to get rid of weeds in order to keep your garden or fields safe, trying wrong remedies in haste may actually provide you but unpleasant outcomes. Here we list out some San Diego expert tips for your perusal.

There are always countless weed seeds in the soil, waiting for an opportunity to sprout and grow up to become nasty shrubs. Though ripping up these intruders may seem satisfying for a few days, they have this ability to regenerate and the worse part, they get stronger with time!

So, when trying to get rid of weed, make sure you don’t inappropriately till the soil or hastily go for pesticides thinking of them as the ultimate weapon. No, they are not. You should, instead, follow expert instructions and learn to prepare and use balanced weed-killing solutions.

I have been growing for 7 years now and I have experimented with a variety of different nutrients for my growing and garden needs. I have tried Advanced Nutrients, General Hydroponics, and Canna, and I was extremely impressed with this one product Golden Tree by Humboldts Secret.

Here are a few handy and easy-to-practice tips on how to control weed in your garden or small backyard field:

Don’t Bother Weed Seeds – Let them Stay Inert

Even though there are numerous weed seeds in every square inch of soil, only a few get adequate light and are therefore able to germinate.

So, avoid unnecessary tilling of soil, for this may bring hidden seeds to the light, allowing them to germinate and take full growth.

Make sure you dig only when you must and immediately salve all the dug spots.

Mulch Regularly

Mulch keeps the soil moist and cool, making it almost impossible for weed to get light. More importantly, it hosts carabid beetles and crickets that live on weed seeds mostly. So, you can keep the soil around all the plants completely covered with mulch, so that weed seeds receive much less light exposure.

For Better results, here’s what you can do:

  • Keep the soil moist most of the times, for this make it easier to pull weed out along with the roots without risking damages to plants in the vicinity.
  • Develop a habit of removing parts of weed that you think will regenerate. For instance, little bulblets will support the growth of wild garlic grass.
  • Never let the soil between plantings to stay bare; use a cover crop or mulch.
  • Hoe the weed using mulch in order to make it impossible for them to harbor pests and rob the plants of essential nutrients.
  • Never bring any nursery plants into your garden without properly checking them
  • Use select weeds for composting and don’t choose just about any variety you come across online or at a local store.

Strategies for Growers to Save Money

Growers need to focus on increasing their profits and not let the competition get to them so much.
Only when growers will manage their resources carefully, will they be able to allocate more funds to improve the quality of crops and the final end products. With a number of companies offering the same product and different combinations, the target customer the first time hydroponic grower is getting confused. Let’s take a look at simple steps we can take to avoid this confusion-
1. Remove The Clutter
When a grower sees the different products available in the market, he needs a local hydro specialist salesman who can explain the difference to him. The lack of right guidance and support is adding to the dilemma and loss of revenue.
2. Low Profit Margins For Retailers
The retailers are also not helping, by not laying more stress on supply products like growth systems powered with CO2, lighting, heating and other growth mediums. More stress should be laid on selling these items that are very essential for a hydroponic grower. The money that is wasted on buying a fancy label can be saved by investing in an infrastructure system.

3. Humboldts Secret Golden Tree to The Growers Rescue
One of the main objectives of Humboldts Secret Golden Tree is to remove the confusion in choosing the right product. They offer detailed guidance for selection of a single nutritive product that will give optimum results. The grower will not need to buy multiple products, only one will suffice. As a result it will save time, sources and give more freedom to the grower.
4. Benefit To Hydroponics Store Operators
Once these systems will be laid in place, the store owners will also benefit from them. Their sales will expand, and happy grower’s directly converts into more profits for all.
